NBTA predicts continued slowdown in business travel

The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) has released its 2009 Business Travel Overview and Cost Forecast, predicting increases in business travel costs and slower than usual travel industry growth. The forecast was based on an online survey of U.S.-based travel buyer members from Sept. 15 to Oct. 21, 2008.

According to the study, travel managers project a 5 to 8 percent increase for business travel costs in 2009.

Business trips will continue to grow, but at a slower base than the annual growth from 2004 to 2007.

Airfares will increase by 7 percent to 10 percent over 2008 levels, hotel rates will increase by 1 percent to 4 percent, and car rental rates will increase by 1 percent to 3 percent.
